 (History of the House)

Beautiful home and 10+/- acres for sale just off the bypass in Monroeville. The original house was built before 1880.  Cecil Jernigan’s mother was born there in 1880 and she was a Rikard. The Westbrook family purchased the house in 1920 and used the property as an experiment farm for the L&N railroad to promote crops for local farmers who would then ship them via the railroad.  The current owners purchased the property in 1991 from Mr. Westbrook's daughter.

In 1996 the owners did a major renovation adding the current kitchen and one bedroom and bathroom upstairs.  Insulation was added to the original house and new Pella windows and doors were installed.  They also built three new working fireplaces.  The power to the house is underground so there are no power lines on the property.

In 2006 the owners built a gunite saltwater swimming pool and a 430 square foot pool house.  The pool house has its own central heating and cooling unit and a tank less gas hot water heater.  The vaulted ceiling is made from pecky cypress and the doors are mahogany.  The floors are stained concrete.  There is a full 435 square foot basement under the pool house that is climate controlled.  The basement was dried in with a complete ABS system including a dehumidifier and sump pumps.  This space can be used as a storm shelter as well as for storage having concrete floors, walls and ceiling.

In the fall of 2016 the owners completely renovated the kitchen replacing dry wall with ship lap walls, a new Wolf gas oven and cooktop, Sub-zero refrigerator, Kitchen Aid ice maker and trash compactor.  The counter tops are Alabama marble.  All the floors have been sanded and refinished.  A new addition upstairs includes a walk-in closet, the laundry room and a storage room (There is a plug in for laundry downstairs as well).  There are two Browning gun safes that will be sold with the house in the storage room.  Downstairs they completely renovated the bathroom attached to the guest bedroom. It has a new walk in shower and vanity with a granite counter top.  With all the additions, the downstairs is approximately 2,292 square feet and upstairs is 2,262 square feet.  Adding the 432 square feet in the pool house brings the total heated and cooled square footage to 4,986 with an additional 432 square feet of storage climate controlled.  There are three covered porches, one having an outdoor fire place and a large covered porch adjacent to the swimming pool. There is a 7-zone irrigation system surrounding the house. There is also a beautiful Live Oak from Toomers Corner in the front yard. It is not unusual to see as many as 30 deer in the afternoon while sitting on the back porch. If your looking for a beautiful home that has a ton of history, then you need to see the Westbrook House!
